About Us

The Camberley and Bagshot Association of Metal Detectorists Club was formed back in 1986 by John Young, the first chairman of the club. His aim was to bring together like-minded people in an effort to promote and enjoy the hobby. He also wanted to develop co-operation and trust with local archaeologists, where it could offer mutual benefit. Appropriately, Geoff Coles, Director of the Surrey Heath Group of the Surrey Archaeological Society, attended the formation meeting.

The club has gone from strength to strength, mainly due to the past chairman Jim Murphy, who devoted much of his time to ensure the club ran smoothly. Jim is now the club president and John Sopp is the chairman. The club has a limit of 40 members who come from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

These friendly meetings are always well attended and, occasionally, we have guests to give talks on various detecting topics. Finds of the month are displayed during the break and the best club site and non club site finds are selected by vote and a certificate is awarded to the winners.
